Summary: The National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) offers semester and yearlong programs to various locations from the Pacific Northwest to Patagonia to New Zealand. Site dependent, courses can include canoeing, backpacking, mountaineering, rafting, climbing, skiing, sailing, wilderness medicine and leave no trace training, equipping participants to be outdoor leaders.

Cost: $9,975-29,645 + airfare, scholarships available

Review: NOLS is run well very effective group of instructors with brilliant teaching and a well planned well executed itinerary with great gear. It’s got a lot of good people though from what I've heard some trips are much more difficult than others such as the Patagonia trip.
