Internship at Estancia Ranquilco (Horse Ranch in Argentina)

HOW OPPORTUNITY WAS FOUND: Through a friend, who had a very positive experience here. Also through its website: www.ranquilco.com

LENGTH: 2 months

LOCATION: Nequen, Argentina (3 hours from the nearest road, so had to horseback ride all the time)

FUN: ★★★★☆

PERSONAL GROWTH: ★★★☆☆

DAY-TO-DAY LIFE: Worked on two intern projects every day -- one in the am and one in the pm. Cooked a community dinner every night.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK/ACTIVITIES DONE: Working on different projects around the farm, horseback riding, helping in the garden, cooking, wood chopping, etc. Everything was very unstructured so it is up to the individual to be proactive in the experience.

HOW MANY HOURS OF WORK DID YOU DO PER WEEK? 35

IN EXCHANGE OF WORK, PROVIDES: horseback riding opportunities, living a beautiful spot, cooked lunch every day and ingredients to make your own dinner and breakfast.

TOP TIPS:

This is a very rural place and you should go into it knowing so. You will be cooking over a fire, living in areas with bugs and dirt, and horseback riding everywhere. However, that is a WONDERFUL experience that I highly recommend to anyone with an open mind.

MOST MEANINGFUL LESSON TAKEN AWAY:

I learned the importance of being a relaxed and low-drama individual while living in a small and isolated community. It is difficult to live with the same small group for months on end so focus on not overreacting to things that aren't a big deal.

MORE NO-CRAP TALK:

The community is mostly made up of foreigners from Europe and North America. While you will have opportunities to get to know locals from the area, much of the experience is in communicating in English with foreigners.
